An exciting new artist has emerged on our radar. Silas Short is a Chicago-based singer and musician who produces his own music, synthesising influences from soul and classic R&B. 'Cloudy June' is from Short's debut EP on Stones Throw, coming 2021, and is produced by Silas Short & Jackson Shepard. The track begins with choral vocals that sing a dreamy melody. Soon, the track blooms into a jasmine scented haven, aided by the modest drum beat, the whimsical strings and a wah-tinged synth. Delicate as petals, jazzy guitar plucks arise, accompanied by Silas' almost whispered vocals, layered in harmony and gentle ad-lib. The bass dances, rooted but expressive, whilst the electric guitar ambles into looser territory, a style that Silas names as 'Liquid Style' guitar playing.
